Do You See Red, White, and Green?

Updated: Nov 14

Before you start reading, I want to clarify that this article is based on my personal feelings and experiences. I think everybody is beautiful in their own way but even though I know that, I sometimes find myself in what I call the “bah body moments”. In these moments my mind focuses on the parts that I don’t like that much about my body. Which is sad because life is way too short to worry about those things. And I know that.

I looked at myself. It is one of those days where you don't feel comfortable in your body. You look at a certain part and may whisper to yourself “I should exercise more” or “that looked different a few years ago”.

I tried a really interesting thing that might help you as well to overcome those “bah body” moments. I talked about it. Yes, about every part that I don’t like that much right now. And even more, I showed those parts to my boyfriend. He invited me to a challenge where we show each other the parts of our body that we don’t like right now. We laughed about how stupid our notions about our perceived imperfections were and each learned that acceptance was beautiful.

What I learned from this experience is that with humor and laughter you can turn a negative voice into a satiric one and that’s precisely what's needed: Light-heartedness.

Life is more than our body and if I find myself in “bah body” moments I try to ask myself what more there is and what beauty of myself I don’t see right now. Therefore I want to share a poem with you:

There is yellow, blue, red, green, pink and black.

Ah and orange there is as well.

Without colors our life would be dreary.

Grey like a mouse.

Is that what we want?

Colors are life’s preset, that we could celebrate more often.

Celebrate that our life is not like a black and white movie- it is colorful.

I try to think about what colorful is:

Is it the place we live in?

Is it the people we meet?

Is it togetherness?

Everywhere are dots of colors.

Sometimes self painted, sometimes left from someone else.

Life is a mix out of colorful dots and in between we see that we created a rainbow.

A rainbow that is drawing our life.

A bright yellow sets the sun alive.

A mat blue lets us recognize a brise of sea smell.

A red veil symbolizes the anger we might feel.

A green dot shows us that there is fertility.

Fertility for all that we have created and are creating.

Everyday. All together.

Every little mosaic piece decorates our life.

Every encounter. Every little moment that we experience. Every dream.

I look at the sky.

It turned from gray to light blue.

It reminds me that everything in life is unpredictable.

How unpredictable life is.

Gray. Green. Yellow. Red.
